These are the nominations of Andraž Teršek, Branko Korže, Anže Erbežnik, Rok Svetlič, Marko Starman, Janez Pogorelec and Barbara Zobec, the President’s office said.

On 14 July, the term of constitutional court judge Dunja Jadek Pens expires. On 14 February, the President of the Republic therefore issued a call for proposals for possible successors and the applications could be submitted by Wednesday.

The Constitutional Court Act stipulates that the President of the Republic may chose a candidate among the candidates proposed, but may also nominate other candidates in the National Assembly.

Following the talks, Pahor will, as usual, consult with heads of parliamentary groups in the National Assembly on the proposal of a possible candidate. In doing so, he will strive for the necessary support for a candidate that meets high professional criteria for performing this function, and will decide on the candidate at a time that will allow the election before the term of the current Constitutional Court judge expires, they said. Before the vote in the National Assembly, a public presentation of the proposed candidate is envisaged.

The President’s office reminded that Pahor had so far proposed eight candidates for the Constitutional Court to the National Assembly, and the candidates won a decisive majority in all cases.
