In the wake of the new coronavirus pandemic, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen advises people to wait a little before booking their summer holiday. At the moment, no one can make reliable forecasts for July and August, she said in an interview with German newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
She also addressed the issue of older people being at risk. She believes they could be kept in isolation until the end of the year in order to protect them from the virus. Without the vaccine, we need to limit the contacts with the elderly as much as possible, she said; it is a matter of life and death, and we must be disciplined and patient.
Von der Leyen hopes that European laboratories will develop the vaccine by the end of the year.
